Global
urbanization is the engine that drives the world toward prosperity in the 21st
century, and young people are the main drivers. Today
there are many people under the age of 25 years, nearly three billion; 1.8
billion of the total population is aged between 12-24 years old. Young
people living in cities and the number is increasing. It
is estimated that approximately 60% of all urban dwellers will be under the age
of 18 in 2036.

Young
people need to be empowered as stakeholders, observers, and a leader for
sustainable urban development in the Asia-Pacific region. Young
people can participate to improve urban governance that is inclusive, ensure
the protection of the urban environment, and lead by using an innovative and
entrepreneurial approach in its implementation. Young
people are very concerned about good education and jobs.

The involvement
of today’s youth is investment in the future as sustainable development and
inclusive. So,
it is necessary to strengthen its capacity and increase the concern in the
implementation of urban problems which is to be faced in the future. APUF-Y event
tried to achieve the following objectives:
-
To discuss the priority issues and strategies to strengthen
the youth participation in municipal
government in Asia–Pacific; - To facilitate
increased capacity based on various models of
successful youth leadership and solutions; - To demonstrate the ability of young people and knowledge to design
leadership volunteerism in high-level, management, and participation in a
set of diverse and innovative
activities; - To strengthen
the voice of young people in the
Asia–Pacific with urban policy dialogue on
regional and global levels related
activities and processes of

“The
Future of Our City, Our Future: Scenarios, Challenges and Proposed Urban Agenda
for Indonesia” became the title of the Mr. Wicaksono presentation. Then
the question arises, “Why New Urban Agenda?” There are several
reasons, one of which is the many people who live in urban areas than those
living in rural areas. We
can see, that the condition of the city today is a reflection of society, right
? The
healthy city is a picture of a society that promotes a clean and healthy
lifestyle.

are three major challenges to the “optimistic scenario” urban such as:
Common challenge: how to optimally utilize a variety of potential posed by the process of urbanization (the formation of regional / urban communities) using limited resources.- Demographic challenge: how to capitalize on “the
demographic bonus” for the future
of our city. Human resource is
a great potential if it can be improved. - Challenges of Governance : how to implement effective governance,
fair, accountable, transparent, participatory, efficient, and others (good regulation and coordination between
sectors are arranged).
That’s all my review until the plenary session. I hope to continue for the couple day soon, insyaAllah.
